In my option...

I am working on a "project" with a fellow ChemE concerning disposal of process sour water without running a sour water stripper. There have been many emails back and forth (which have also been sent to my boss, and her boss), and they all crack me up...here are some highlights, I put my fav one in purple at the end:

On a job fair:
"FYI

I cant make it but if also, I think the article is a little dated"

On Hiding the hardhat (long story):
"Found and re-hided"

On water treatment:
"We have been working with Baker to determine, if we could treat the sour water with a scavenger to remove the H2S so we could dump the water to the sewer. The sour water is about 6000 ppm in the vapor space when they shake the bottle.
They initial tried to use the scavenger that we have on-site but the lowest they could get too was ~650ppm. Baker tried another chemical, BPW76050, and able to get the vapor space down to 0 ppm. They mixed it at a concentration of 10000ppm. This means we would need to mix in approximately 13,000 gals of chemical with the sour water. The down side to using the chemical, it turns the sour water black which will increase the TSS in the waste water stream. "

In response to my list of water treatment "opinions":
"It looks like the best opinion is going to be the Baker Chemical, BPW 76050.
We still need to get this chemical approved, and we are working with Baker to get another sample tested bc we do not believe all of the material contains 6000ppm H2S. "

"Agreed this is the best opinion, if we can get Ops to run the SRU on sour gas alone."

"Can’t be done, due to EPA constraints so not an opinion in my book. Unless Environmental can get this override."

"I do not see this being an opinion at all, way too many safety concerns and exposure risks. Even if we emptied at minimal rate (1 gpm), it would take 2.4 Years to empty the tank way to long."

"I think this is probably the best way to opinion for everyone. I know Delcora is still going to need to approve it but I think that will be an issue. Once we remove all of the H2S dangers than we can go ahead, and work out the logistics of dumping the tank. "
