Quotes from an email from my Aunt's friend on moving to Chicago...

"I cannot tell you exactly how far south to look and how far south is safe. I recommend a building with a doorman until she learns the city. Pay attention to parking. Sometimes parking is included in the rental, but most times, it's extra. It's a pain to have to park on the street. Be sure the parking garage is well lit and safe...Building security is important, but the main drag, Michigan Ave, has life much of the time. I use busses most of the time; I can get almost anywhere on the bus."

"You know, Chicagoland has millions of people. I cannot say what to avoid...because I just don't know the neighborhoods in the south that well. I work at 18 S. Michigan Ave...across from the skating rink and Millenium Park..and I used to work at 430 S. Michigan across from Grant Park. That's the S. Loop; it's built up over the last 5 -7 years. There are empty condos that should be for rent. I've never had trouble, but this is a city, just like any other big city. I take the bus, even at this late hour. I am cautious when walking."

"I am happy to meet them and to drive them around the area. My car is 18 years old now. Then, they could get a picture of the area."
